UPDATE: Christina from Real Choice cautions against automatically thinking that Tiller’s killer was from the pro-life side. He left a lot of victims besides the babies he killed.

The Wichita Eagle is reporting that abortionist George Tiller was shot and killed today while entering his church.
Tiller has long been a focal point of protest by abortion opponents because his clinic, Women’s Health Care Services at 5701 E. Kellogg, is one of the few in the country where late-term abortions are performed.
“We are shocked at this morning’s disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down,” anti-abortion group Operation Rescue said in a statement on its Web site. “Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller’s family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ.”
Obviously, this act was the wrong way to go about ending the evil of abortion. And of course, it’s sad that this man led the life he did and, barring a miraculous last-moment act of repentance, is now starting an eternity in hell. Having said that, it is good that there is one less person in this world who is willing to kill babies in the womb.
On a different note, I would say that any church who would have accepted Tiller as a member can not be truly considered a Christian church.

We need to not assume this killing was motivated by generic opposition to abortion. I’m sure Tiller had plenty of patients and their loved ones who had reason to hate him and wish him dead. Abortionists have been gunned down in gangland slayings as well. We won’t know what the killer’s motive was until the investigation is complete.
Thanks, Christina, for that point. I think everyone is jumping to the conclusion that the killer (Tiller’s killer) is from the pro-life side, but as you say, he left a lot of victims in his wake besides the babies he killed.
You are not God, you do not have the power to determine Dr. Tillers spiritual whereabouts right now.
Wafaquo, you are absolutely correct. I am not God and I don’t know if he went to Heaven or Hell. Which is why I prefaced the particular statement that you’re concerned over with “…barring a miraculous last-moment act of repentance…” I believe it’s fairly easy to prove in the Bible that committing abortions is a sin. Tiller committed abortions. Therefore, it’s safe to say he sinned. If he never repented, it’s safe to say he is not enjoying an eternity with God. Whether he repented or not–only God knows that.
See, I’m not so sure about the necessity of manually repenting of every single sin we commit. There are probably sins that I’ve committed in my lifetime that I can’t recall. “General” repentance is what I think is what Christianity is about.
Wafaquo, if the guy continues to go to work at his clinic, killing babies day in and day out, that tells me he hasn’t done ANY type of repentance. My definition of repentance is confessing a sin to God, actually feeling sorrow for that sin, and turning away from the sin. Like I said before, only God knows the true state of his heart.
